Health Centers Owned by the Community – Right Where They Live

Imagine being sick or having an emergency, but the closest doctor is hours away by foot. That’s the reality for many in rural Uganda, and it can be very dangerous. We’re changing this by building local health centers in places that don’t have them. We also work closely with the Ugandan Government to make sure these centers keep running for a long time.

Our model includes:

  • The government steps in to provide medicines, equipment, and trained health workers.
  • Local people help look after the centers and make sure they’re doing a good job.
  • Villagers can get regular check-ups, safe care for mothers, and emergency help, all close to home.

This way of working changes everything for health care. Moms can have their babies safely, children get quick treatment for common illnesses, and everyone can see a doctor without long, risky trips. These centers don’t just save lives; they give communities the power of reliable health care that stays.

b) Boreholes for Schools Program Clean Water for Healthy Learning

At Compassion for Community Canada, we firmly believe clean water isn’t just nice to have – it’s a basic human right. It’s also super important for kids to learn and grow. While we work hard to build schools that help every child reach their full potential, we know that learning truly takes off only when kids are healthy and clean.

In many country areas where we work, getting enough water is a real struggle. Kids often don’t have safe water to drink at school. They might have to carry water from home or even walk a long way to find it. This uses up time and energy they should be spending in class. Not only does this make them sick, but it also means they miss school, find it hard to pay attention, and don’t do as well in their studies.

Our Boreholes for Schools Program helps solve this problem! We do it by digging deep wells, called boreholes, right at or very close to the schools. These wells bring up clean water from deep underground, giving the schools a steady and safe water supply all year.

Program Benefits:

  • Better Health for Kids: Clean water means kids won’t get sick from dirty water. They stay healthy and can come to school every single day.
  • Cleaner Habits: Having water right there helps kids wash their hands properly and use clean toilets. This is super important for stopping germs and illness from spreading.
  • Better Learning: Kids can focus on their lessons instead of worrying about where to get a drink.
  • Helps the Whole Community: Lots of our wells also give water to families living close by. This builds stronger trust and support for the school from the whole community.

By making sure every school we build also has a lasting source of water, Compassion for Community Canada doesn’t just improve learning. We also invest in the long-term health and bright future of children and their communities. Each borehole is so much more than just a well – it’s a source of health, self-respect, and a whole lot of hope.
