1. Education – Sustainable School Ownership

Schools Owned by the Community, for Good

Imagine a school that relies only on donations. If the money runs out, the school closes, and children can’t learn. This happens a lot in places like Uganda. But at Compassion for Community, we’re changing that. We help communities build and run their own schools, so they don’t have to depend on others.

Our approach ensures that:

  • People in the community get hands-on in building and running their school.
  • Local leaders, parents, and teachers are in charge of making sure the school runs well and the lessons are good.
  • Schools find ways to earn money, like small fees, growing food, or teaming up with local businesses. This helps them pay for themselves.

We kick things off by providing the money to build classrooms, fill libraries with books, set up science labs, and get computers working. But once the school is up and running, it’s designed to manage itself, without needing our help forever.

These schools are more than just places to learn. They become lively centers where people meet, share traditions, and learn new skills. By making sure schools offer good learning and can support themselves, we’re helping villages build a future where kids keep learning, communities get stronger, and progress lasts for many years.
